Continued Progress in Hagerstown

Updated: Apr 25, 2020

The City of Hagerstown and its partners continue to make impressive progress in implementing the Community's City Center Plan. The State has approved a 20-year lease, allowing the for expansion of the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown's campus and the establishment of a new hospitality- and tourism-management program and improved facilities for the school's STEM laboratories. Expansion of the Maryland Theater is also moving forward, with Washington County having earmarked $5 million in state Urban Improvement Project funding to development and the City and County each contributing $500,000 toward design work. An additional $2.5 million in Urban Improvement Project funding has been designated for the new Board of Education building that will include classroom, kitchen and cateteria space and will connect internally to the Maryland Theatre addition.
