Congratulations to Swarthmore College for its recognition by the Philadelphia chapter of the Urban Land Institute for the Town Center West development. The Willard G. "Bill" Rouse Award for Excellence honors "leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities". The Town Center West project includes the 40-room Swarthmore Inn, the Broad Table Tavern and an enlarged and relocated Campus and Community Store -- as well as a traffic roundabout and other infrastructure improvements that calm a very dangerous intersection and better integrate the College into the community. The Town Center West project was a key element of the community-driven Town Center Revitalization Strategy completed by Urban Partners and is a reality due to the sustained, strong partnership of the College and Borough.
